SECOND CHANCE ANIMAL TRUST
Microchipping.

At SCAT we strongly believe in the Microchipping of animals.
We charge just £10 to microchip each animal.

Vets usually charge around £17. We advise that all animals homed from us, are microchipped at the time of adoption, but we also offer the service to owners of animals that did not originate from us.

If you lose your cat or dog, and it loses it's collar (If it was wearing one), and is then taken to a rescue center or vet, animals are always scanned to see if they have a microchip. If the animal is microchipped, your details can easily be traced and your beloved pet can be returned to you. There would be a lot less animals waiting for homes in rescue shelters, if owners made a practice of chipping each animal.

Over the easter weekend, we were unfortunate enough to discover an un-neutered tom cat, that had been killed on the road in Norwich. As is all too often the case, the cat had no collar & no microchip. We were unable to notify the owner of the cat, as would normally be our procedure. Being un-neutered, this tom could be up to 5 miles away from home, so the chances of us ever being able to find his owners are very slim.
Not only is there an unhappy owner somewhere, not knowing what happened to their boy, but it upset the people who had to pick him up aswell.

Please spare a thought for these people, who often get tooted by disgruntled motorists, when they have to wait a few moments, whilst the animals are collected.
If you have ever lost a pet & not known of it's fate, then you will understand our sentiment. Microchipping takes only a few minutes and can save hours, weeks or months of heartache, wondering what happened to poor old 'Puss'.

Please also give strong consideration to the neutering of all pets. Not only to prevent unwanted pregnancies, but also in the case of tom cats specifically, to prevent needless deaths, whilst covering however many miles, to get to that female in oestrus.
It is not a responsible attitude these days, to say "It's OK, everybody gets females spayed.", or "I don't need to get my male neutered, because there are no females living in my street".
An un-neutered male cat, is at much greater risk, than one that has been 'seen to'. Not only do they wander for miles to find an available young lady, but they have a much wider home range (the area which they patrol as their territory). If another un-neutered tom cat enters their home range, then the chances are that there will be a fight. Cats can cause a great deal of damage to each other whilst fighting & are also more likely to be exposed to disceases such as Feline Immuno Virus (F.I.V.) which is commonly called cat aids. Although there are probably a lot of pets out there that carry this virus, without it being known, there are also a lot of people who will needlessly insist that animals who are known to carry this virus, are euthanised, even though they have the potential to live for up to 23+ years, without suffering from the effects.
Please don't let your pet become a victim of this narrow mindedness.
